MG Midget and Sprite Technical - What gauge metal for repairs?

I need to order some steel sheet for repairs to my rusty 1500 midget but I'm not sure what gauge/thickness to go for. I need to replace the rotting patches on the front of the footwell (where it joins the inner sill. Is 1mm about right (20 or 18 gauge) or thicker ot thinner? I can't measure the existing metal as it is too rusty. Any general advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Best to get for this is 1.2mm

The car panels should be 20 swg. I know the 18 swg/1.2mm sheet that I use for patches is thicker than the original steel. I've purposefully gone up a gauge as nearly everything I'm replacing is in the known rust spots, so thicker steel will last longer if nothing else! It also makes welding a little easier too.
