MG Midget and Sprite Technical - whats a good oil pressure?

hi .on my midget 1500 im getting a reading of around 70psi on the gauge when im doing 80mph.this can go as low as 50-60psi when i hit 90-100mph.is this good or bad? i need help deciphering the gauge. the engine is a full recon with 3000 miles on it.cheers

It would be best to install an oil cooler, especially on the 1500. The oil pressure will remain much more stable under load in the summer time.
Glenn Mallory

Stick to 80 or less; seems at that speed your oil stays reasonably cool and pressure is good...

sounds like your oil is getting too hot.

Roy, I have just fitted an early 70's grill to replace the perforated ali thing I made when I first de bumpered the car. Even today in these semi tropical weather conditions the engine is running cooler!! The airflow was being seriously restricted.
Nick Sayle

My Haynes say oil pressure 40 to 60psi running, so your's sounds good.

The 1500 needs a cooler anyway, but you definitely need one at those speeds!

If you don't already have one, install one.

Not much help,
