MG Midget and Sprite Technical - What's this?

Bit of an enigma this one - much as I dislike stainless covers for a midget, they were festooned on the donor vehicle I had.

The one on the left is door sill top stainless covers - but for the life of me, can't work out for the one on the right hand side what it is or where it goes?

Any suggestions?

It could be similar for an MGB. Can't think where it would go on a Midget.

To me it looks like an MGB sill top cover.
