MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Where does this wire go?

Hi All

Whilst carring out a service at the weekend to my 1500 midget and fitting a new set of points and condensor I noticed a wire that came of a trumpet shaped 'thing' at the bottom of the distributer but was disconected at the other end. Does anyone know where this should go, the car runs an drives fine without it but as its there I assume that it should be connected to something?

Thanks in advance

I think that in your signing off, "thanks in advance", you may have unwittingly answered your own question

Is it a wire, or a thin plastic tube?

Would that trumpet-shaped thing be the vacuum advance unit? I know there's a vacuum line connected to it, but a wire?

Scratching head,

Aha, yes I think it would be a vacuum unit as I do remember one on another car being similar, and yes it could well be a hose as it was quite flexible and had a 'L' shaped piece at one end so it's starting to make sense.

Anyone know where I should connect the other end too?

I've not had a car without a computer to manage the engine for years so even the fact I had to set a gap in the points stumped me for a few minutes at the weekend, luckily I had some feeler gauges to hand!!

Cheers

Bingo. It's a tube, and the L-shaped rubber thingy is the fitting that connected it to a vacuum port. On my '78, that port is just downstream of the throttle plate. Then again, the US-spec Midgets of that era used the vacuum to retard the timing on deceleration, hence the placement of the port. So yours may be different!
