MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Which new rack
There is a big difference in cost between a Moss midget rack £120 and one from MGOC £70. The Moss one appears to be outright whereas the MGOC one is exchange. Anyone had any experience with the MGOC one? |

Hi what is the problem with your ptesent rack could you not referbuish it yourself? Keith |

It is possible, the main reason it needs doing is a warning from the last MOT that the N/S track rod is badly worn. I had a lot of problems with this rack when I rebuilt the car about 3 years ago, the seal around the pinion shaft would not keep the oil in - after many abortive attempts, I got a kit from Australia that did the trick and I have not distrurbed it since. One of the reasons for replacing it rather than refurb is speed and available time Mike |

Do you mean the TRE is worn, cant you just change that part(in pairs of course). You need an understanding MOT tester. Ive replaced worn racks with recon units in the past that have failed the MOT test immediately. Replacing the track rod itself is more onerous and the inboard joint is expensive. |

No, not the TRE but the track rod itself - it looks like the play (quite a lot) is in the ball joint where it joins the rack. I have replaced these on Minis before but if one has gone, the other can't be far behind and I am sure the pinion shaft will leak if I disturbe it again. |
