MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Why won't my driversside door line up?
When I got the car the door on the driverside didn't line up properly since someone did a poor job when repairing the car after a crash. I sorted that and the door fit snugg and nice, and when I got my car painted they had the doors on when sanding filler on the car. But now when i try to re assemble no matter what I do I can't seem to get the door to fit. It's like a centimeter from the bottom gap and half a centimetre to far to the front... Is there a trick to this? |

We are going to need extra details and some photos How did you fix it the crash damage, did they have the door off or loosen the hinges, did they remove any thing windows, handles or locks...also photo the hinges and what there attached to Is there a tear accross the top of the door next to the triangle window... what are the B post like at the hinge esp the lower hinge...any flex or movement Did they or you do any rust repair Prop |

Alex, What adjustments have you tried. As you say the doors fitted before, it seems its just a positioning and not a structural problem. It sounds like you need to slacken the two bolts that hold each of the hinges to the door and reposition them a bit. These give the fore and aft adjustment to the door positioning, and some vertical. The lateral adjustment is by moving the hinge brackets that bolt to the A post. |

And, If you run out of adjustment, some cars use an extra packing piece between the hinge plate and the A post. Maybe these were there before and have now been left out? |

Well, gave it another go today... Took longer than it should have, a 5mm spacer behind the top hinge, a few scratches and dents and it still isn't as good as it should be but probably as good as it's going to get. The door seems to be just a tad bit crooked which it wasn't before and i assume the guy who painted it lied about having the door fitted while working on it. I've changed the outer sills and made big repairs where the rear springs fit to the chassi but the doors still fit after those procedures. Anyhow i'll settle with this. |

It does look a bit snugg esp at the top of both sides...but it looks great To be honest ive found expecting modernday perfection for our cars is a temporary accomplishment Prop |

I would be very happy if mine was that good. Dave |

Provided the latch/catch lines up, those gaps look very good to me. You could likely spend days fettling it, but why bother. You don't notice the door shuts when you're inside grinning going down the road. |

8 out of 10 drives your going to have some form of clothing hanging out under the door, so it wont shut well anyway Or is that just me :-) Prop |

Which bits of your clothing Prop? lol. |

Looks pretty good to me! You should see Gary L's frog. They don't call it Gaps for nothing! That goes pretty well added wind resistance or not! |

Alright, Thanks guys. Thing is that the lover front corner is tilted inward vertically which doesn't show on the pictures but it'll do. /Alex |
