MG Midget and Sprite Technical - willwood calipers

Hi Folks

this be the problem

Are your rear drums adjusted up?

Fitting a bigger master cyl. does make the most of the willwoods but the pedal should still be good with the org set-up

Hi Alex
i backed the handbrake of and adjusted the shoe's tight then back so the drums turn, could a hydraulic
handbrake cause problems.

Probably something to do with the horrible dual circuit master cylinder. I can never get a decent pedal on a car fitted with one...

There are no doubt bleeding tips contained within this worthy site (as a racer my view would be throw the bloody thing away and run a balance bar set up)

Almost certainly.

The trick is to compare the piston area on the 4-pots to the stock piston area. It will be larger meaning that the pistons displace more fluid.

The upshot of this is that with a small bore Master Cylinder you have to move the piston further to account for the extra require displacement of fluid - hence the longer pedal travel.

On our racer we initially used Princess calipers which required a .75" M/C to get a good, firm, pedal.

When I upgraded to Wilwoods the increase in piston area necessitated an increase in M/C bore to .875", although admittedly we are running a bias pedal box with twin M/C set up - the rear brakes M/C is .75" owing to the fact that we run Wolsley 1500 rear drums.

The hydraulic handbrake will have no effect since it is essentially an open circuit until the handbrake is applied.
