MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Windscreen Rubber vs 1/4 window

After a four hour session of strained sinews and bad language, my pal and I got the windscreen on my 1966 midget yesterday. Can anyone please post a photo of how far down the screen frame the rubber seal that the quarter window presses against goes? Do I cut it off level with the top of the door, or does it go right down to the bottom of the screen frame with a slant cut?

One picture will tell all. Thanks in advance.

sorry no photo, but what I did was to trim the bottom first (leave it long at the top), and get the slant cut right, to line up with the top of the door smoothly

open and close the door and check everything is right

then, once I got that right, I cut off the rest from the top

the advantage of this approach is that you can experiment with just how low the bottom end should be first - it won't be an air tight seal, but there is a "best fit" position of the bottom edge that seems like it will keep out water, and will hold up over time without too much interference with the door, and won't interfere with the door operation

Mike. Hope this helps. This is the original rubber on my '65 car. It stands about 1/8th of an inch proud at the top to fit with the header rail.

That's exactly the photo I needed Bernie. Thanks. I cut it at an angle so that it goes right down to the point of the frame pillar, but it doesn't look right when the door is closed - all sort of squashed. I'll trim it like yours.

Love the body coloured dashboard. I've done the same with mine. My car is Midnight Blue, not original for the year, but I like it, and as its a Heritage shell its hardly the same car any more.

Mike. I got the idea of a body coloured dashboard from looking at Morris Minors and VW Beetles, but it seems that quite a lot of others had the same idea. I've also done the back of my interior mirror and interior door latch plates the same.
