MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Wiper Blades

Still pondering on improving the poor wiper blades currently offered and noticed theese :-

Anybody used them ?

I would like to try to fit a set of the new type that are basically a sprung strip with out the older cage style backing as they are much better on my Saab.
It seems that the rear wiper for early Merc A series were 9" so may be worth a punt, may need a bit of fettling to connect or look for new arms to shorten.
Anybody tried any ?

As Nigel will confirm the quality of the current offerings is pretty poor.

Richard,
being '1972 on' they should fit the later 5.2mm bayonet wiper arms (rather than the earlier spoon fitting with blades that are now particularly terrible fitting).

As the Q-Parts version are £8.95 from MGOC and what looks like the Tex version from Moss are £9.30 (£12 in black) I'd give them a try for £4.74.

You could give Rimmers a phone about them, I've found Rimmers to be honest and candid about the parts they sell.

That's a good price although how can you have genuine Rover now? Wouldnt they be NOS in which case it's old rubber? I was going to use:
wiperbladeshop.co.uk. but they're more expensive.

Similar to a pair I have had for years but never fitted as the fastening to my wiper arms is different as they all have the hooked end. These would need a straight push-in style arm with a locating blip which looks like the same for those Rover blades.

The best overall wiper improvement I made was to change the wiper motor gear to give a greater sweep. I think it's to 120 degrees. It came from an Austin 1100 years ago when they were still appearing in the scrapyards. It gives a decent overlap of the swept area in the middle of the screen and clears heavy rain much better.

Be careful of bonnet clearances when using non standard wiper arms.
Rain X is your friend.

Agreed Alan, I use it all the time in the midget.

I remember the wipers were never very good when a Midget was my daily driver and I'm not over impressed with the latest offerings.
So I thought I may experiment with the newer type blades that curve to the screen without the backing metal work as they seem to be so much better on my Moderns.

I was hoping to use the original arms and engineer a fit to modern blades and see how they perform.

Still plenty of machining in the workshop to complete before I get around to trying it !
