MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Wire wheels
Hey everyone, I've got a set of wire wheels which I plan to fit to my midget but they are in need of shot blasting and powder coating....does anyone know of a reliable company either in yorkshire or notts and what price to expect? I rang a couple of local firms today and they quoted £48 and £60 per wheel, seems a bit steep! Thanks, James |

I would be very wary about second hand wire wheels especially ones that required treatment. Looking at the maths it must be almost as cheap to have bought new ones to begin with. The problem with second hand wheels is the condition of the splines, sometimes these can be badly worn. |

had mine done a little while ago for £10 a wheel..lightly blasted. I then painted them, as this was their original finish. |

I don't recommend powder coating wires. Two problems, the powder coat will prevent future adjustments of the spoke tension and as the spokes flex slightly at the rim and hub the powder coat cracks and rust can start. Once that happens it's a lot more difficult to remove the powder coat to repair. Paint is so much easier to touch up if necessary. |

I think David's option is the best advice IF you want to retain the used wheels. No point on spending a fortune on unknowns. Bob's advice is the more sensible way to go, but at about £90.00 per wheel for new ones, I can see your logic in refurbished s/h ones. Mark. |
