MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Wiring a wiper motor?
Anybody able to assist please? I have used a 1500 wiper motor in a conversion as the positioning of the motor is more convenient. It is a two speed version although my original loom was for a single speed. The 1500 motor has a connecting block with the following wires: Black Green Red/green tracer Blue/green tracer Brown/green tracer My original loom has three wires going to the motor. Black Green Green/blck tracer. I appreciate I will only get single speed with my exisitng switch and wiring but I'm not having much success getting it going. Anyone else done this or know how to wire it up please? Thanks, Neil PS Sorry but have posted this on the 16v midget forum too. |

Neil, What year is your car ? early cars had a different wiper motor with 3 wires. I think when they went neg earth they introduced the 'round type' motor and had 4 /5 wires, not sure which switch you have. Do you have a copy of Bristows book ? It is easier to see the differences between the types. Will try to mail you off board - if not tommorrow. R. |

Hi Richard, My Midget is a MkII '64 with the three wires, black, green and black with green tracer. I still have the original switch. The 1500 motor I have used has the five wires as above. Presumably I can locate a suitable Lucas type switch that will allow me to use the two speed wipers. Neil |

Neil, The later ones were all fused with an in line fuse for the incoming power as well - easy to add. Not sure what switch - all 2 speed original ones were rocker type. You have mail. R. |

Someone else not reading the right books (I'll never get my half day in MIRAs wind tunnel at this rate). BHA 4786 is the part number for the MGB 2 speed TOGGLE wiper switch though on my I've always filed a notch on a headlamp switch and used it upside down. Further details page 139 and 140 |

Hey sorry Daniel. I have your book too and the latest edition at that. I'll read it this evening!! I guessed a Midget toggle switch used for the lights would work as it is a two position one. Neil |

Neil - Paul Hunt has the definitive discussion for everything related to all the wiper motors and the spaghetti feeding them. http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/ >Hammer and spanner > electrical > wipers Surely you can convert from MGB to Spridget w/o difficulty?! FRM |

Daniel - If you're going to include a pic on every post - can you at least find one thats cropped down so we sont have 3/4 of it white space. |

Dean, sorry - they always look ok on preview to me. Is it just my pictures that do this, just the book cover, or do other peoples do the same? Anyone - what am I doing wrong and how do I stop it (apart from not posting photos)? |

The BBS puts the large white section back on after you crop it. The cropped picture was approx 240 x 290. Then it increases in saize to 600 x 727 when uploaded. eddie |

Neil I converted mine to two speed by stripping a two speed wiper motor of a classic mini (or real one as I like to call them) and using an MGB switch. The original circuit diagram is attached. What you need to add is the Blue/green wire to pin 3 of the motor and take this to the MGB switch. Sorry I don't have a not of the pin numbers on the MGB switch! Steve |

Hey thanks Steve. I need to get a switch and then will give it a go. Neil |
