MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Wiring Harness Replacement
Has anyone tried replacing the single style front wiring harness in a 1972 Mark IV midget with the later 2 piece harness which has the dashboard wiring separate? Will it work? Any reason not to? |

Correction, I meant Midget Mk III |

Stan,
Not a Mk III but on my Frogeye I used a three piece harness, headlights, dash and front of car, and tail/brake lights and I've had no problem with them in over a year. I just took my time not removing the old harness but laying the new one next to it and unplugging the old one and plugging the new one as I went along. Depending on how bad your old one is, a good wiring diagram is very helpful. My original, cloth covered wires had all pretty much lost their color coding so that's why I did it that way. Plus it helps you orient the new harness to the right mounting points. I would also recommend removing the dash to make it easier to get at all of the switches and instruments. It's a bit of a pain to get it out and back in but worth the effort. Also, make sure everything works as it should before you put the dash back. And don't rush, you've got all winter. |
