I'm sure this has come up recently. Maybe it was on FB.

Problem one, there is only one for sale so your car will be lop sided!

Problem two, for me, who has made/welded this together? Did they know what they were doing?

Cheers,
Malc.

My thought exactly Malc. Mr Blobby MIG welding. Which is not necessarily a bad thing done competently, but I think it looks awful.

She's fairly agricultural, heavy duty and there's nowhere for the spring to locate either
looks a bit poo all up--actually looking at it further, it's starting to hurt my eyes

To be fair the welds you can see look ok. But how accurately was it made ?

Who wants one of a pair, which is a one off? And if there is only one left did the other one break.....?

If someone was going for something that was not as per original, I might have expected something using round tube rather than square tube with fewer cuts and joins. Something like Locost wishbones, perhaps: http://www.mksportscars.com/parts/locost/locost-top-wishbone.html &
http://www.mksportscars.com/parts/locost/locost-bottom-front-wishbone.html

Did anyone ever find out what finally happened to Barry King’s wishbone jigs and info on their manufacture by his father and any subcontracted subcomponents used in fabrication? It is a shame that production of the King wishbones could not be continued by others.

Best wishes
Mike

PS this old thread reminds me why we discuss such things: http://www.mg-cars.net/mg-midget-sprite-technical-bbs/bad-wordswishbones-given-up-the-ghost-2012090821350024982.htm

Don't trust welding for highly stressed components especially if they are as safety critical. There is always a flaw in the weld toe which can initiate a fatigue failure.

10 years later and a lot of hard use and I'm still on those Barry King wishbones and mk 2 strengthened damper bracket
