MG MGA - 1500 oil pump
The machine shop rebuilding my 1500 engine wants to replace the oil pump, but I only see new pumps available from engine GB46341, mine is a GB24365...can the newer oil pump be used in the older 1500 engine and what changes must be made....he does not want to have it rebuilt, would like me to find a new one...in the moss catalog it almost looks like the old style strainer might just bolt up to the newer style pump...always want to check with the experts before I mave a move..thanks all... There is good reason why the earlier stype pump is no longer available. Do NOT put the early style bottom end on the new pump just to re-use the strainer. The early style pickup is much more restrictive to inlet flow. That cost me the rod bearings and crankshaft journals more than once before I caught on. The early and late pumps are identical above the split line. Only the pickup arm and strainer are different. This bears repeating. See here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/engine/of107a.htm |
