MG MGA - 1622 CYLINDER HEAD THICKNESS
I have a 1622 engine in my MGA. The engine was new in the 1070s and has never been run. I have removed it from the car while I redo the frame & suspension. Looking at the clutch & flywheel it looks to be new. Which validates the POs assertion. I have previously talked about the "Landar" valve cover & have wondered if the engine was built by the Reynolds brothers or just an after market valve cover was bolted on. The question is, can anyone tell me what the stock head thickness is? I would like to determine if the head has been planed. I have searched the archieves w/o success. Thanks Morris |

Check mgbmga.com and look at the tech files. There is a bunch of information there and I would be surprised if the numbers you are looking for aren't there as well. j |

Original thickness is 3.187 inches for almost all B-series heads. The 18 "L" head from 1972-1974 is a little thinner, possibly around 3.140. |

Thanks Barney, I will check the head this morning. John, I checked the mgbmga site & Doug had the combustion chamber capacity only which is checkable if the head is off. I e-mailed Doug & his response was that he didn't know so once I have checked the thickness of the head I will advise Doug. Thanks guys Morris |
