MG MGA - 1800 Alloy Rocker Cover
I have an opportunity to get an alloy valve cover. The seller states that it is from an 1800. I think it will fit a 1500/1600, but because of the money, I would like to make sure. Will an 1800 valve cover fit the 1500/1600 engine? Thanks. |

Hi Mike. MGA and MGB valve covers were I believe, exactly the same dimensionally. They differed only in the type of venting arrangements, and style of oil filler caps. An 1800 cover should fit your MGA engine. I say should because I picked up an MGB alloy cover for my MGA engine, and the casting was a bit too thick to clear the front rocker pedestal. I had to carefully grind away some of the aluminum inside the rocker cover, but I eventially got it to fit. You may find that the venting arrangement on the new alloy cover will have to be altered to suit your MGA engine. Hope this helps, Glenn |

I was going to add this to the other alloy cover thread about venting the cover, but I guess it already went to archive. Victoria British sells the alloy cover, both vented and unvented. The vent tube, however, goes out the side (high) and not the top, if that matters. |

If you recall my earlier thread about venting an alloy cover, thanks for all your replies. I have now drilled a 12mm hole in the correct location in the new cover and fitted a short piece of 12mm aluminium tube. Tight interference fit and sealed with JB Weld. Looks neat and functions as original David |

So, what should I pay for this? |
