MG MGA - 1953 MGA/MGB/MGTD - Oh the humanity!
I don't know what to call this thing. http://www.oldride.com/classic_cars/442611.html www.loughmillermotors.com |

I am at a loss for words. |

Now Del, I should think this would meet with your criteria for adding mg(b) parts to an older car? Just kidding, but I had to throw that at you. Other than my snide remark to Del, I too am at a loss for words. |
James Johanski |
It isn't clear exactly what was added to what. |
Del Rawlins |
That's kind of what I was thinking. I really don't know what to call it. |

Bit of a mongrel there Steve - would make a good quiz picture - name the models used in supplying parts. Looks like a TF back end with a TD front but I can't see any MGA bits in it - cheers Cam |

I'm thinking the frame must be MGA since there isn't a good way to put a T-series body on a B unibody without serious modifications. The car does win the award for most horrendous use of late model MGB tail lamps though. |

Looks like a common TD underneath, no front bumper, no spare tire. Tough to put a T-type body on an A frame, but with some fiddling you can put A or even B suspension parts on the TD, including the rear axle. This falls right into that spirit of upgrading an older car with newer parts, and all British too. Even the Weber carb is a common upgrade for a 76 engine, but what's underneath the carb? Is that a free form asbestos heat shield (or a sop rag for dripping fuel)? B wheels and tail lights, racing seats, steering wheel and competition instruments. Great upgrade to an old TD to bring it into the modern world. Must be worth at least triple the asking price. (Multiple smileys implied). |

Looks to be a TD with a B engine, tranny, front and rear suspension, brakes and steering. Modified fire wall. Any body see the steering wheel on anything besides the interior shot? The words that comes to my mind are POS. Sorry. What hump? Abby Normal |

That certainly is an awful looking car! It's too bad as done properly they could have had something that looked like this. http://www.fototime.com/DF191F7898754B0/standard.jpg This is a car we built when I worked at Octagon Motor Group in Vancouver BC in the mid-80's. When we got this TD it had a clapped out Volvo motor installed. We dropped in an MGB motor and transmission (I can't recall if we changed the rear end) and installed MGB front suspension with disc brakes. It turned out to be a great little car. I particularly like the bobbed front wings. (The beer can airplane radiator mascot was only installed for the show) I believe that this car ended up in Germany. Rich |

Steve S.. This is a great new car to add to your collection. I can see you and your wife driving in it on one of the Holiday Get togethers. I just hope we all don't laugh too hard and fall down!!!!! |

For convenience: http://www.loughmillermotors.com/53mg.html Just a few more pics, not too detailed. On his main page, they talk of 3 year warranties. I think that would be a good idea. Out here in the plains, most of us don't know any better. I would like to talk to the builder to see what he's like. Probably a lot of fun and a little crazy. The 2 things that stand out as wierd to me are the amount of space behind the engine now and those taillights! Never imagined what rostyle wheels would look like on a TD.. |

For a couple of grand I would be tempted. It would be a good starting point for a project car. But, for a car with no paint, no interior and those gosh-awful taillights I think they are asking way too much! It would take lots of dinero to turn it into something that didn't look like a VW engined kit-car. Too bad, it deserves better! Rich |

Jeff, you're a sick man! LOL! And hey, I don't drive cars with plywood dashboards! A nice burl walnut, yes. But Rich is right, it looks like a MiGi (VW-based MG TD replica kit car). Especially the dash. |
Steve Simmons |
I took another look at the engine photo, and it IS way far forward. The shifter is well under the dash. The way I see it you could either move the whole thing back a few inches or take the easy way out and just fit an MGC motor and tranny. :-) Rich |

Somewhere out there is a TC with an MGC engine in it. I've seen the photos. |
