MG MGA - 1962 Rear Axle interchangeable with 62 - 67B
Hi, I was wondering if someone could tell me whether or not my 1962 MGA rear axle is interchangeable with one from a 1962 - 1967 MGB. Thanks, John |

Hi John. A banjo style MGB rear axle is physically interchangeable with the MGA axle. It bolts in complete with no problem. However, the MGB axle has a different gear ratio, and uses different backing plates and wheel cylinders. The backing plates and wheel cylinders on your MGA rear axle can be easily transferred to the MGB axle. The MGB axle ratio gives a higher top speed, but reduces acceleration a bit, if memory serves. Hope this helps, Glenn |

John, The basic answer is yes, but try these on Barney's website: http://www.mgaguru.com/mgtech/rearaxle/ra203.htm http://www.mgaguru.com/mgtech/brakes/bt204.htm http://www.mgaguru.com/mgtech/brakes/bt205.htm If you have not been there, you must go through the site when working on your MGA. There are very few model specific websites (MGA, B, TR6, Corvette- whatever) that are this well organized AND have this much information too. -BMC. |

The handbrake cable pivot is also different. |
