I don't know the difference, the Ford Serria trans conversion is built by Peter Gamble at Hi Gear and any one who offers that kit is buying it from him.

Hi Serge - 2 of our club members have fitted the Hi Gear one to their cars ( 1 MGA and the other a '53TF) - both love the transformation. I have not heard of the classic conversions one but it does seem a lot cheaper and uses a different Ford box . I have already sourced the Ford Sierra Type 9 box and hope to order the Hi gear one shortly - cheers Cam

Hi cam

it looks like they use both the same ford gearbox as specified on there website 5 speed, 1.6L & 1.8L: 1982-91, & 2.0L: 1982-87) thats what they both use, just they call it different Hi-gear calls it T9 type and cassicconversion calls it N5 type, so the parts they supply would also the same, could ther ber that big difference in the price looks like hi gear is 25% more expencive

Hi Serge, It does pose a bit of a dilemma - The specifications do look the same and the Ford gearbox seems to have the same ratios (why has it been given a different number?). I know Hi Gear has solds hundreds if not thousands of their units ( and there is a wating list for them) but I have not yet heard of anyone who has used the Classic Conversion one - perhaps asking on the other MG BBS if anyone there has come across anyone who's got one. Until then I will take some convincing that the classic conversion one is the one for me even if it will save £200+ - I will wait a week or so to see if there are any positive replies before ordering my Hi Gear one for fitting in the autumn - cheers Cam
