MG MGA - A New Record?
Nice car, but not exactly concourse. Although clean and dry, the underbody and engine bay show lots of miles. Firewall paint isn't that great. And not entirely original either. Sold for $50,500. Must be a new record considering the condition, at laest for the US market. I've noticed an upward trend in a lot of classics lately. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1960-mg-mga-34/ |

That is about the going rate for a good car here, great ones go for even more |
Dominic Clancy |
We shouldnt be surprised - so many have been brought home - and originality is not an issue for cars that are well used. Good car - sensible price |
Roger Walker |
Here in the USA, a car like this normally goes for about half the price. I guess those days may be ending. It's a shame. |
Steve Simmons |
Agree with Steve - prices here in Southeast US are about half that figure. And,we all have a sell price, but Melon's is way above that 🙄 - Ken |

I'm sure that Melon will be pleased to know that she commands a high price Ken? :^) Mind you, I shouldn't really be so surprised, it's not so easy to find a wife who comes complete with her own MGA MkII :^) I maybe shouldn't say any more on the subject, keeping in mind your Constitutions "Second amendment". :^) Cheers Colyn |

OK Colyn, you've taught me to be more precise in my wording. I should have said "Melon's MKII", but then we all would have missed another example of your great sense of humor! Getting back on thread, the fact that everyone agrees our cars are going up in price has triggered me to look into increasing the estimated value on our insurance policy. Just to be clear for Colyn, I'm referring to the insurance on the A, not Melon :~) |

Well if that wasn't a record then this certainly is. Beautifully restored 1600 with a 1622 installed and a few personalizations. $115,000 USD. While I don't like seeing such high prices on these cars, it's nice to see them treated as equals with Porsche 356's as they should be. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1961-mg-mga-roadster/ |

I love it when changes are "not original" on most cars, but become "personalisations" on high priced examples! |
Dominic Clancy |
Isn't it the same thing? The only difference is whether you want to pick a car apart, or appreciate the changes. The car doesn't care one way or another! |
Steve Simmons |
Well as my own car is highly "personalised" I belong to the "make it as much fun to drive as much as possible" crew rather than the trailer originalists - both have their place! |
Dominic Clancy |
I have to admit Steve, that is a lovely MGA, definitely modified, but still a fine looking car. I was reading through the add on the "bring a trailer" link and I wondered how the car, with its Le Mans screen, would look when fitted with the advertised side-screens? Have they been cut down to match the cut down screen? Colyn |
Colyn Firth |
That's a great point! I suspect they are only being included because they are already with the car. But cutting them down for Winter driving would be interesting. Then again there's no heater (included but not restored) so there's no heat to keep in. Probably better to raise half the tonneau, don your gloves and hat and motor onward. |
