MG MGA - A racer or a polisher?
Our club unofficially defines members as racers or polishers - what category do you fit into? I am interested to get an idea of the ratio (like the recent survey on the average age of an A driver - 52 years old) Mike |

Also how many cars have been converted from left hand drive, my car was converted to right hand drive came from USA, I'm a polisher not graduated to racer yet. Dave 58 Roadster |

The reg of my car VFO 990 (FO) issued by the Licence authority DVLO I think originated from a defunct Welsh county. Dave |

Dave FO is Radnor cc just for the info. |

Hi Mike, My car is strictly for driving at weekends to shows and enjoying around our country lanes. Definitely not for risking damaging in a race I'm afraid - too old for that now ( both of us) as the reactions aren't what they used to be. My car is definitely a polisher and is a 1960 1600 originally exported to Switzerland but an original RHD brought back to UK in 1996.Cheers Cam |

only reason to polish is to go quicker i think! |

Erm, probably a racer as I wash it only occasionally and the only polishing I do (cough...) is to head ports.... My car was originally LHD, was restored by me to RHD, then converted back to LHD again (how often does that happen?) |

I am a polisher with dreams of being a racer. Kris |

Mine is just a money pit for now. Still under construction, but won't be a racer when done, but definitely a driver not a show queen. |

A similar term is used on the West Coast. Your either a Driver or a Poser. I happen to be a Driver (racer) who also polishes my vintage race car. Guess I'm both. |
Skip (aka Scott) |
It's a cycle. I start as a poser, with a fresh resto that I drive to events. Three or four years and 20K miles later, I now have another fresh resto completed, while the first one is maturing into a racer. I drive the first one and pose with the second. And the cycle repeats... |

Definately a racer. Just can't see the point in my car being exactly the same as thousands of others. Although it is nice to see a car better presented than when new!! |
Bob (robert) I am turning? yes I once owned an MGWasp!! |
Bob, I can't find any real evidence that the MG Wasp ever existed. Publish pictures! Dan |

I'd rather not be classified as either. I polish my car but I have to because I get it so dirty driving the hell out of it. |
Steve Simmons |
Sorry Dan it is a little joke! Comes from the fact that your country men call a Frogeye Sprite a Bugeye. So I called an MG B (bee) an MG Wasp. Not particularly funny but I think far better than listing every car you own in your ID. It is exactly like this thread, sometimes we need to show individuality, that is what MG stands for. Had we been asking this question 30 years ago no one would have been a polisher and 10 minutes after leaving the factory every car would have been personalised! |

Mike Interesting that you offer an even number of options, forcing a definitive view - no standing on the fence. As a true democratic Brit I think there should be 3 categories, but happy to make it 4 if you can think of one. I would have said racer, regular/daily user, polisher. Needless to say I would go for the middle one!! However, you set the criteria so my answer has to be polisher if by racer you infer genuine track racer. My speed is generally at the top of the legal limits on public roads. I guess I am a bit like Dominic but I don't have a supercharger! Left hand drive converted to right. Age related number plate (PSJ) - Scottish, *SJ used for a number of age related recent registrations. Steve |

Racer.... get in... shut up... hold on... think I saw that on a bumper sticker somewhere ...LOL !!! Polish the car with a spray gun every few years though. I think my brothers car is due for another polish. http://freespace.virgin.net/marka.hester/MKII_April2005.jpg Was LHD, but goes faster as RHD now as the circuits are predominantly clockwise. A driver. I had a rather backhanded compiment from a neightbour (who currently has a 1920s Morris Minor). While I was working on the A he passed and said that he didn't like them looking too new. Actually it was due the annual wash which it gets whether it needs it or not. |

Greetings, I guess a racer, as I have no plans to ever was her. http://www.flickr.com/photos/chauss513/sets/1326931/ looking for a pair of very used wing mount mirrors with dull chrome. Cheers, Chris |

Schizophrenic, I guess. MGA Twincam - racer. Owned since 1970, raced it (SCCA equivalent in Canada) since 1973 http://www.rhodo.citymax.com/i/non-rhodo/portland.jpg MGA Mk2 coupe - sort of polisher, but I've used it hard for years before re-restoring it. Will probably take it easy for awhile before relapsing into driving the heck out of it. http://www.rhodo.citymax.com/i/non-rhodo/coupemg1.jpg MGC - modified engine - drive long and hard on the street. http://www.rhodo.citymax.com/i/non-rhodo/69mgc.jpg MGA-Jamaican - intend to drive it hard, although not legal for vintage racing with modern engine. http://www.rhodo.citymax.com/i/non-rhodo/57Jamacian_9.jpg Guess I am a 3/4 racer type (or more) |

Chris - What a great find! I hope you don't repaint. Love the patina! |

I have no intention of touching the exterior, I am in the process of restoring the boot, cockpit and engine bay in order to make it not look like a total roach. I really like the way it looks right now. |
