MG MGA - A Use For Overheating MGAs

The stories about overheating MGAs are legendary. I received an email today from a chap who came across my MGA website, primarily as a result of researching an old Fordson tractor jack. This is part of his email:

"I was only 6 when Dad took the farm in '41, but I hung on to the jack when we sold up 10 or 11 years later. To be honest I remember more about the old Fordson than the jack, which I worked from age 9. The farm man, Joe, used to take off down the fields with the tractor and his tea can. Then he would pull down the radiator blind fully, pull out the throttle until the engine boiled, and open the radiator tap to fill his tea can with boiling water. You can imagine the state of the dirty water in an old Fordson with the engine boiling, nasty brown stuff. He loved his char and I never heard him moan!"

What would 'Elf & Safety have to say about that today?

So all you overheating MGA owners, how about a brew from the contents of your radiators, enhanced with a bit of anti-freeze?

Yucko - At least I would imagine that he never suffered from anemia, having gotten his minimum daily requirement of iron (albeit a bit rusty). Cheers - Dave

I just got a photo of the beast. I think it is a Fordson N. I think this link sums up the thread: http://www.classicvintagetractors.co.uk/vintage-tractors-for-sale/fordson-tractors/fordson-N-tractor-detail/fordson-N-tractor-2.html

That's quit an old tractor. At the recent Home and Garden show, a whole line up of old tractors were on display. Not being an affectionado of old tractors, I have no idea what vintage they were but it was quite a display of old Farmall and John Deer's and Ford tractors. Cheers - Dave
