MG MGA - Adjustable Steering Shaft

Is it easily possible to remove the small shaft from the large one? I have a nice column but the steering wheel splines are stripped. I have an old one from a wreck I would like to swap out. If not I will clean up the rusty one..thanks.

Yes, but soak in penetrating oil first as otherwise it may not move at all!

The small (inner) shaft should slide / press out from the tubular main shaft. The main shaft fits inside the steering tube that is clamped to the chassis under the dash and by the pedals.

I can also recommend the plastic steering column bushings that were available on this board - no more felt issues.

If you mean removing the short sliding section from the main column, there is a key that must be removed. As I recall you will have to separate the shaft at the universal joint and remove the upper assembly to get at it.
