MG MGA - Adjusting the head lights?

What is best (correct) way to adjust the headlights (for RHD cars preferably) if you do not have a professional headlight aimer?

What about the MGA Workshop Manual method?

It is being discussed on MGB tech BBS as well. Bob

I have always just adjusted them on a dark and level road. Adjust the pass side lamp to run straight down the side of the road and then adjust the driver's headlight for the same, then tilt them slightly down and slghtly to the edge of the road. If you get them set too high, the dipped bulb will be too ineffective.Too low and you can;t see far enough ahead.

I like to check it on a foggy night!

We use the garage door to set the head light. Park the car close, mark the centre of the beam, then we roll the car backwards and ensure the light pattern doesnt move up or to the right(AUS). Not high tech but thats how we do it.

If you do an image search in google fo head light alignment you can see what i mean.
