MG MGA - Alloy wheels

FRom Facebook

2004 Hyundai Sonata wheels. 16x6.5 - 46mm offset. Fit great, just a little rub on the sway bar at full lock. 04-08 Kia Optima/Spectra/Magentis has a medium width 8 spoke and 00-03 Nissan Sentra/00-01 Altima has a thin 6 spoke as well with the same specs.
I wanted something different than the motolita wheels. The 16's let me use modern high performance tires (205/55) that are within 1/4" diameter of stock - so speedo is still accurate and I don't loose cruising speed with smaller tires.

I provided this information to Barney too, and for the second time in recent weeks received an unpleasant and negative reply.

I too think that the reasons given for using these wheels are odd, but the fact is that disc wheel substitutes are not easy to find and the steel wheels are increasingly fragile. Barney doesn't seem to agree that the use of these wheels deserves consideration, so I leave the information here that these wheels apparently fit, without any judgement at all as to whether it is a good idea or not.....

Hi Dominic, I like those and am surprised at Barney! Did you ever consider Saab wheels? I used the Saab 15inch steels on my race car as they looked very much like the MGA steels, but were so much newer. I accumulated quite a few, but could have got many more alloys as nobody seemed to want them. Unfortunately they were no good for historic racing.

Gio, now I dont like those!!!!!

Hi Colin;

WHY you don't like them ?

Are they to shiny ???? :-)

Gio, yep far too shiny!!

I think I would need to see them fitted, before passing judgement 🙂

I'm sort of going down this route hopefully to compliment the modern paint job. It will not be to everyone's taste I appreciate but I've done my restoration bit for the marque and am now creating a 21st century version for myself.

Mark that looks good. What mods have you done to her?

It's a matter of taste and practicality where the roadholding is improved. I like them all (but then I used the 15" Saab wheels with 195 tyres on our GT V8). It's really good to see folk carrying on the MG tradition of experimenting.

Colin, I wish I could say it has a modern twin cam, lsd and 5 speed but I need to limit the mods till she's registered.(saved from a Virgian scrap yard)
Front susp, nsion is via Hoyles coil overs + 3/4" arb wheels are 5.5x15 Minator. Paint is Ford Dark Micastone a pearl finish which in my opinion really suits the car. No bumpers + sebring style valance. I will post more images when front wings, etc fitted.

I like them all, but it’s all personal taste and I absolutely respect and appreciate that a traditionalist will not.
I have wire wheels anyway so I can’t change!
