MG MGA - Alternator for MGB conversion
Hi, I was hoping someone could help me out with the following. I'm putting an 18V 5 main engine in my "A", and will be converting to using the alternator. Any ideas of which year of alternator should be used? (Perhaps the easiest one to hook-up?) I see that MOSS for example lists the following different ones: 1968 1969-1971 1972-1974 1974 1/2 - 1978 1979 - 1980 Thanks, John |

Umm... Just saw that Moss has a conversion kit, so please disregard my last post. Cheers, Jason |

You're going to need to call moss on this. The alternator body itself should be the same for all years, hence the diagram stating 1968-80. The three part numbers probably represent units with different plug configurations or different power outputs. Plus, two numbers are for new units and one number is for rebuilt. Call them and ask which part # is used in their MGA alternator conversion kit. I would reccommend this kit if you don't already have a core alternator and the brackets and sundries. The kit itself doesn't specify which part # alternator they supply you with, so you might want to check it out (and maybe post the answer on this board so those of us with the conversion already know what they've got). Here is the instruction manual for installing this conversion: http://www.mossmotors.com/graphics/products/PDF/130-078MGA.pdf Mark |

Sorry for disregarding your disregard. Apparently we were posting at the same time. |

Try doing a search in the Archives in the 'B Sections. Lots of info and links to "How-To" sites using Bosch, 1-wire Delco and Saturn alternators. |
