MG MGA - Any Funkhana Veterans out there?...

Does anyone have any favorite funkhana gimmicks and ideas?

I've volunteered to run the funkhana at a rallye this summer. One minor snag: I've never been to a Funkhana. Does anyone have any favorite funkhana ideas, gimmicks, etc. that they've seen (or would like to see) at a funkhana?

I could really use the help!

Some of the things I've heard about:
- Driving blindfolded with the navigator giving instructions
- Attach a magnetic parts dish to bonnet of the car. Put a tennis ball in it. If ball comes out during run, car is disqualified.
- Have driver collect a bunch of objects from the course.

Thanks very much!

The Funkhana run at the Namgar meet in Virginia a couple years back included, a cup of water held by the passenger, one then had to take a baseball from the top of one traffic cone and place it on top of the next cone. The ball had to remain on the top. Otherwise you must stop-get out-and place it back on the top of the cone. Several(3) rings had to be placed on selected cones, and the driver had to stop within a given area. The stop area was graduated

Seconds were added for touching, or knocking down the traffic cones, stopping outside the given stop zone(s). The remaining water in the cup was measured after the run, seconds were added proportionally to the amount of water lost during the run.

I think that was it.

Another one I saw last summer is the balancing act. The set up requires a bit more logistic. The driver is asked to park the car on a platform that pivots right in the middle. The car is driven onto the platform and, using a combination of gas, brake, clutch and handbrake work has to bring the car right at the balacing point and keep the platform level (5-6 inches off the ground) for a few seconds.

At a convention about 10 years ago, the Chicagoland MG Club funkhana included a stop on the circuit where the participants had to get out of the car and "hot wire" a mocked up MGB (or maybe it was a Magnette, I don't remember for sure). The "car" was a plywood facsimile of the front only, rough shape captured and painted grille, headlights, etc. On a shelf behind the front was some wires, a terminal strip, a coil(I think), and a 12v battery. Use your imagination to construct the circuit. Once correctly "hot wired" a recording (of a members' Harley Davidson!) would sound and they could get back into their car to continue. It was enjoyed by all. Another one which was more elaborate was done by the CMGC in Indianapolis. We had a wooden profile (approx 3/4 size, CAD generated) of an MG Liquid Suspension Special (driver and all!), a car which ran a couple of years at the 500. Two wire wheels were fixed to the profile, and a third was on the ground. Participants had to execute a pit stop by changing a wheel, and I think refueling (water used), and changing a plug. It was very popular, I think another MG club from back east purchased it from us, don't know what happened after that.

Al Moss had an electric horn on a small wood frame rigged, so when backing up to it (it was out of view behind the boot)and you hit it,it would go off. Or use a traffic cone with a tennis ball on top of it.

Another one: have the navigator jump out at a station to screw/unscrew spark plug(s) in/out of a cylinder head.

Use aluminum cans as targets to hit and crush.

Car limbo - the car has to pass under a (lightweight) bar. From a set distance, the owner can get it set at the height he judges he can drive under. The distance between the highest part of the car is measured and points awarded for the closest to the car.

I've also seen the water one - but with the water balanced on the scuttle.
