MG MGA - Anyone... anyone...?

Does anyone know what may have happened to the yellow MGA that was used in National Lampoons Animal House filmed in the late 70's?

Don't know about the actual car that was used in the Movie BUT the clear pic of the Yellow car is NOT the one that was used....it is my car before it was painted it's current BRG. I know because the I took that pic in my back yard.

The top pic has 1600 front lights and the one parking in the dark has 1500 rear lights. Clever. Rick you owned a yellow MGA ? No wonder you painted it.

MGAs are readily available. I want to know: Where is the Deathmobile?

Hold on a minute RJ. My race car is yellow, and I painted it that color!

I'm sorry its yellow

Among the streed rod crowd, yellow is considered the kiss of death. Sorry, but for some reason yellow cars don't sell as fast as any other color! I have nothing against yellow, I just find this amusing!

TG I'm not driving a street rod!

A very famous street rod is the '32 Ford coupe in the movie "American Graffiti", which is yellow (the car is still around). "The kiss of death"??

didn't the fonzie predecessor guy die in that YELLOW car at the end of the movie?? goes to show!!
james madson

James, if I remember correctly, at the end of the movie the coupe wins the drag race against the '55 ('56?) black Chevy driven by Harrison Ford. The Chevy rolls off the side of the road I think.

That character was killed by a drunk driver several years after the end of the movie. That information was included at the end of the movie when we were told how all the characters ended up.

"The kiss of death" (I should have explained) only refers to resale. I got that one from the in-laws. My mother-in-law was a professional appraiser for collector cars. I'm not sure if yellow is a regional problem or not, but it drops the car values here!

I've seen the pic of the yellow MGA elsewhere on the internet and saved it. I had a 58 MGA exactly the same yellow color. Now those of you that wonder why one would have a yellow MGA, I'll tell you the story. I bought my 58 MGA in about 1967. I needed a cheap car to drive to work. I had seen MGAs while growing up in Europe (military brat), but never been close to one. So there's this interesting looking car with a for sale sign and $200 on it in a front yard.

A couple of years later, I bought a 57 MGA with burned valves, half eaten by rust, but nice wire wheels, very straight bumpers and a convertible top (58 didn't have a top) for $75. I pulled the 57 body completely off to the bare frame, totally sanded and painted the frame and swapped the 58 body onto it for the sake of the wire wheels. In the process, I sanded the yellow 58 MGA nearly to bare metal, primered it and bought heaven knows how many cans of "schoolbus" yellow spray paint from a local hardware store. OK, I was young, not a lot of money, but learned a lot about MGs in the process.

Meanwhile, I was helping a friend rebuild a 62 MGA Mark II engine. He decided he wanted to put a 283 chevy in his MGA so I traded some parts and 20 bucks and dropped it in the MGA. Won a lot of trophies racing that MGA and sold it in about 1972 or 1973 for $250. I miss it and have very fond memories of it.

Did you try sending an E-mail to that John Spreng listed at the bottom of the photos to see if he knows where it is???
