MG MGA - Axle Splines

I've been offered a Quaife LSD for my banjo axle MGB (wire wheels). It came from a wire wheel MGA. The seller claims it's a 25 spline unit. But I have a set of MGA wire wheel axles here that are 10 spline.

I want to put this unit in my early B (banjo axle '65). Any idea if it will fit? I don't know how many splines are on the B axle so hopefully someone here can enlighten me?

Steve,
I would guess that the spider gears would be changeable and simply swapping the gears for the proper spline count would do the trick.

BTW Why is an LSD necessary. If you are 4x4 ing or driving in wintery slippery conditions I can understand but under normal use what is the benefit of LSD in an MGA?

The LSD will be going into an early B with a built-up engine. And the price is good.

I don't know if the Quaife unit uses the standard spider gears or if they are something else non-interchangeable.

MGA had 10 splines through chassis 68850 May 1959.

MGA 1600 (chassis 68851 May 1959) had involute 26 spline until December 1959 (chassis 82748ww 82892dw May 1959)

MGA 1600 (chassis 82749ww 82893dw December 1959) had involute 25 spline, continuing through production of MGA 1600 MK II and including the MGB models.

Late MGA 25-spline and MGB 25-spline half shafts for the banjo type axle are interchangeable, except for the size of the studs for bolt-on wheels (7/16" for MGA ans 1/2" for MGB).

All MGB and MGB banjo type differentials are interchangeable, as long as you use sun gears with correct splines to match the halfshafts.

Awesome explanation as usual, Barney. Thank you!
