MG MGA - B manifold to an A
Has anyone fitted a B ex. manifold to an A [rhd] and will it involve major surgery to clear the chassis. I have been advised that [thin wall] custom extractors are noisy and can have a limited life cycle. Thanks Sean |

Sean, I believe the B stock manifold will conflict with the steering column. The headers you can buy are only as noisy as the quality of muffler you attach to them. I've had one last for 6 months (I wrapped it, and the trapped heat cooked the metal), but I've been using another for several years now (Jet-Hot coated). Bought from Advanced Performance Technologies in California. Tyler |

Tyler, The steering column is on the right side! I have the same question and: there are two manifolds for the B a thick and thin flange, which matches the MGA inlet manifold? So anyone fitted the B manifold on a RHD A? Neil |

Oops! I should read these things about 3 times before answering a question. Tyler |

Sean / Neil, I have fitted a B manifold and headers to my 1600 about 7 years ago. The headers needed some modification to clear the tube chassis cross piece, this was completed at the local exhaust / muffler shop by cutting the header and welding a piece in, cost about $100 including fitting + the cost of the standard MGB header. At the time was considerably cheaper than custom built exhaust. From the post I notice there are two types of B exhaust manifolds...if someone can describe the difference I can let you know the type in use. Russell |

I have previously had a 5 bearing B motor complete with manifold and headers in my 1600 coupe. With a bit of push and gentle persuasion they fit like a bought one. Jim |
