MG MGA - Back Driving
Finally back driving a month after my Beemer shunt. The MGA was crying out for a run so I took it with wife and spaniel on a picnic. I thought you might appreciate the hamper straps a colleague made for me a while ago. He learnt his leather craft while manning mortar defences during the Dhofar war in the 60s. The Beemer should be back with me this week. I had not realised that it was fitted with power retraction seat belts that pulled me back into the seat on impact. I wondered at the time where the sound of dissipitating gas came from. Even so, there was enough whiplash to leave me with a constant headache for the best part of 3 weeks - and they still come and go. Steve |

The basket looks great on the car, but isn't the steering wheel on the wrong side!!!! The other side of the pond |

Hi Steve, Where did you get the belts to fasten the picknick basket ? Koen |
Koen Ackermans |
Koen As I said in my post, the leather straps were made for me by an ex RAF colleague who learned leather craft as a hobby. The straps were originally tailor made for the basket to fit on my MGTC. However, they are a pretty good fit also on the MGA. Steve |

Steve, Does your fuel gauge work? I think you need to get one of the origional type key fobs! I got some from the MGA Register, they're pretty nice. I do like the leather straps (pity about the bungee though) Koen, There's a link on Barney's site for making luggage rack belts (mgaguru.com) Neil |

Love the picnic basket on the back Steve- but isn't it a bit mean to carry the spaniel that way? Cheers Cam - p.s. Glad to hear that you are back in the driving seat after your accident - hope the compo doesn't take too long to come through! |

Cam, we were only thinking that! You dare'd to say it. Neil |

Cam The thought had crossed my mind. It's one (painful) way to finance a supercharger!! The old spaniel (Barney) loves it down in the footwell. The heat from the tunnelling helps his arthritus but the wife has trouble finding room to put her feet. The only other trouble is that the dog keeps hitting my windscreen wash switch that I have mounted under the passenger dash. The windscreen is pristeen clean, but the rest of the car needs a good clean. Steve |

Love those straps Steve - reckon the rack will come off before they let that hamper go! Hope you are getting physio on your that neck. I got stuffed from behind and slammed into the vehicle in front about three years ago. The neck started getting painful and it took two years of physio to put that right! Great South Downs Run in the sun to Eastbourne in the "A" yesterday, great turn out from "Ms" to "Zs". Pete |

Steve You need to change the switch for one that has a cover on it (James bond ejector seat style) to prevent accidental operation. I am sure they will have one in the stores at work.... |

Ha! Cam, you must be following the US presidential race. One of the candidates got a lot of heat when he said he'd taken his dog on a cross-country trip in a kennel lashed to the roof of his car! "But he *liked* it up there!" |
