MG MGA - Badge position - 1600 roadster
What is the correct position for 1600 badges on the engine shroud - distance from the edge of the chrome air vent? Are they positioned with their centre line on the same centre line as the air vent or are they postioned so that the base of the badge sits on the extended centre line of the air vent (this appears to be what is depicted in Clausager - Original MGA). PS I love the way you guys get stuck into the advertisers on Ebay on country lines - It is a pity such rivalry doesn't exist between New Zealand and Australia! Regards Mike |

Mike Just had a measure for you. Mine are behind the chrome air vent and on the centre line. One side the chrome to chrome edges are 33mm - and the other side is 36mm... Never knew that before... Hope this helps - best I can do. Pete |

The variation Pete wrote about got me curious. I took a piece of paper taped it over the holes and poked holes in the paper to mach the 6 holes in the body on both sides of two cars. On a 60 1600 the front hole for the 1600 is 70mm back from a line between the rear two emblem holes on the left side. The measurement is 72.5mm back for the right side. On a 62 1600 MK11, with its longer number, the left side is72.5 and the right is 70. It appears to me that there was a broad variation in locating the number badges. The first hole was almost centered and about 70-73mm back from the back two hole for the vent. |

Pete when you say "... on the centre line." do you mean they have the same centre line or the base of the 1600 badge sits on the centre line of the air vent ..... sorry for being so pedantic! |

Of the four sides on the two cars I measured 2 were almost centered 1 was slightly high and one was slightly low. I think they meant to have the center of the numbers on the center line of the vents. From the measurements I took I would locate the front hole of the 1600 80mm from the 2 vent mounting holes.(triangulate) That would give the correct distance from the vent to the 1600 and center the hole. I hope this makes sense. Randy |

Mike As I say the '1600' plates are behind (to the rear) of the vent. The horizontal centre line of both items being coincident. Does that do it for you Mike? Pete |

Thanks Pete and Randy - all is clear. |
