MG MGA - Base plate gasket
I need to a better job of explaining things. RJ was telling me about the heater box gasket itself, I think in the previous post. What I need help with is which/what type gaskets go between [Moss 181-655, Box, master cylinder] and between [Moss 181-645, Base Plate/Pedal Box] and between the Base Plate/Pedal Box and the shelf it sits on. They are not listed in the Moss or VB books. I could make them if I knew the material. Thanks |

It appears that these parts, base plate/pedal box and the master cylinder box, are not available from Moss anymore. I was looking in a 2004 catalog. |

The workshop manual doesn't show any gasket under the master cylinder bracket, only the rubber boot around the ends of the pedals. You could use some liquid gasket or rtv, but if the shelf and bracket were freshly painted, I would think they would seal well enough to keep fumes from passing thru. |

Jeff, I looked in there, too, but on the parts car there is some rubber-looking gasket remnants between the plates. |

Wray, I believe the rubber remnants you are seeing are, in fact, the remains of the rubber boot Jeff described. On the passenger side there is a flat piece of rubber and metal frame with 4 screws covering the opening. On the drivers side you have a similar metal frame and rubber boot, that the pedals pass thru, sandwiched between the metal frame and the pedal/master cylinder bracket. There is no other gasket. If you have the sevice parts list take a look at plate M1. It shows this very clearly. Regards, Gerry |

Your confusion with my answer is because I misread your question. I misread and wrote about the gasket under the heater box. I am not aware of any gasket between the master cylinder bracket and the heater shelf. I investigate further. |
