MG MGA - Beaulieu Autojumble 11/12 September 2010

Having singularly failed to attend any classic car event this summer, I have put Beaulieu in my diary. Anyone else intending to go? Saturday 11 Sept and Sunday 12th.

If so, suggest we try to rendezvous at some stage - an alcoholic beverages tent at a suitable time? Any suggestions?

I am bringing a group of 9 other MGA-lers, and we will be there on Saturday (Sunday I have to reserve for some time with my Mum!)
dominic clancy

That's great Dominic. Are you all coming over in your MGAs? Might take mine, although not much use if I decide to buy a shed-full of spares. Also the parking area is not conducive to displaying the old crocks.

I am planning on Saturday. Looks like the target day is set.

Anyone else?

Some day....

Hi Steve
No, we are flying to the nightmare called Heathrow, then a couple of rental cars
I'll leave the coordination to you

Hi Steve

I will be there both Saturday and Sunday. Around noon there's always some sort informal meeting of the MG VA register. It takes place near the Burger Bar and drinks stands (where else?) at the entrance of the Red Field (coming from the automart). Might be a good idea to meet there?

Hi Steve,

not this year as the wife has banned me due to it clashing with our wedding using wedding cars sevenoaks anniversary or some such nonsense ;-)

Have a great time and I hope the weather holds out. Maybe by next year my A will finally be on the road.

cheers,

Grant :-)
G Hudson

Rutger

Never change a plan that works. As long as you VA guys do not mind a few interlopers!

I will be carrying a copy of The Times under my left arm, wearing a flat hat and tank driver goggles.

I have circled the area you mean. It is also alongside the toilets! Other might get the wrong idea.

Steve

Steve Gyles

What if (just by coincidence) the place is full of people wearing flat caps and tank drivers goggles with copies of the times under there left arms, just a thought, Vin
Vin Rafter

Saturday looks good. Cloth cap easy; not sure where the tank goggles are: haven't used them for a while. Relieved that Steve left out the handlebar tache. Will probably come in the Series 2 Land Rover in case Steve needs a spare shed.
The RV can be fairly wasp-ridden but worth meeting to see all the tools on which Gordon outbid me over the years. Shane

Steve

Just for the record: I don't own a VA, I'm only a groupie there :-0 so a few more hangers-on are most welcome!

BTW Vin has a point. To make sure we recognize you also wear your knickerbockers :-)

Rutger (I can be recognized by the large pint of cider I'm holding!)

Rutger

So you can recognise me!

Steve

Steve Gyles

Blimey Steve - I don't think your wife and kids would recognise you like that! cheers Cam

Steve

Is the disguise the missing Biggles moustache and the lack of the white scarf - otherwise you were dressed rather like that when we met at Christmas.....

Rutger

Looking forward to seeing you in the usual place at the usual time - I hope that reprobate in the photo next to you will be there. Looking forward to it this year.

Steve - I dare you !

Hi Gobby

It will be good to see you again. I don't know about Keith, but Bas will be there too!

I might struggle. My goggles are in storage along with most of my MGA spares. Might manage the flat hat and scarf. Suppose I could buy another set of goggles at the event! Do you know Gordon Pugh from your neck of the woods? You could share transport and he could sell you some tools on the way!

Will be good to see Bas too Rutger - brilliant - I have some news to share when I see you.

I dont know Gordon - Yet - apart from seeing his posts on here sometimes (I am usually on the Magnette pages but pop over here for a browse as our cars share so many bits and problems etc).

I am staying up there for a few days too

Hope to see some of you there

Just a reminder before this thread falls off the bottom.

Looks like 3 consecutive weekends for us southerners.

You guys going to Beaulieu, if you happen to come accross the following, please buy!..
..I have a Lockheed Brake Booster installed behind the FRHS splash panel. The air intake on the valve has an enclosed cap,(unlike the normal one with a series of breather holes) from which the air is drawn from inside the engine bay via a hose (cleaner air in theory). This enclosed cap is as rare as a RHD steering rack, but I need a new cap. The original Lockheed part number was SSB 1056, and was called a Control Valve Kit.
If you come accross a dealer with this part, please buy, and I will reimburse promptly, along with some beer money!
Gary Lock

Just to add to the last thread, I think the part number was also AP 3887-266.
Thanks
Gary

Gary

Do you have a picture of the item?

Steve
Steve Gyles

Steve, can't seem to load a picture, but the item is mentioned and shown in the brochure that Moss supply with the unit. The brochure is entitled "AP Lockheed Remote Vacuum Servo Unit Types 6 & 7", and is on page 2 (Alternative filter cap). I've just found it on Google...type in the full brochure name, and "quick view" the heading.

For the Beaulieu sleuths

dominic clancy

Thanks Dominic. Between us we may spot one.

Steve
Steve Gyles

Thanks for putting that on Dominic. Dave Godwin had a slide show yesterday of his trip, and spotted you in a couple of pics.
Gary Lock

Gary

Just a thought, AP Caparo bought out a lot of Lockheed's brake parts manufacturing tooling etc. The MGA master cylinder is but one item, and it is vastly superior to some of the junk being advertised on Ebay.

I noticed that you quoted AP Lockheed in your item request. It might be worth emailing AP Caparo to see if they can help you:

FWIW the vendor of the MGA Shelley Jack in my other thread will be at Beaulieu. He runs the Vintage Tool Company and will be on stalls R755 and R756.

So what time at the VA lot? Saturday around 3 would be good for me.
dominic clancy

Dominic

Seems the VA lot start meeting from 1200 hours. I will drop in on them around that time. If you don't make it then let's make a second RV at the same place at 1500. That should give me time to find a complete Judson hidden under a pile of junk and going for a song (dream on)!

Looks like we may just get away with the weather over the weekend. Original forecasts were for a wet Saturday. It now looks like just the occasional shower. Nice sunny day on Sunday.

Might still take the wellies. It can get a bit boggy in places on the lower fields.

Steve
Steve Gyles

Wellies, Steve? Surely the flying boots aren't in store? Ready to RV at 1200 and 1500! Shane
Shanerj

Just packed the hiking boots - glad to hear the weather forecast has changed, was dreading the mud

Steve: Mobile is +41763133862
dominic clancy

Shane unfortunately the flying boots are relatively smooth soled and not good in mud and slime; just right for a war in Northern Europe!!

Dominic. I presume that's a Swiss number?

Steve

PS. They are about 22 years old now. Ready for the museum.
Steve Gyles

Mmmm. I stand corrected. Latest weather map shows a wet start on Saturday, then a small clearance followed by more general rain mid afternoon.

Might just be okay for the 1200 meet, avoiding watered down beer!

Sunday looks a good dry sunny day.

Steve
Steve Gyles

Hi Steve, hope you all have a good couple of days, say hi to Dave at Vintage Tool Co for me

Gordon
g c pugh

An enjoyable day was had by all. One small shower of rain but then brightened up. Big crowd with lots of European representation, both stall holders and customers.

Prices seemed extortionately high. I guess we can blame the internet for that. For example I chatted to a number of stall holders about Shelley jacks and they said they used my database to value their products.

Good to meet up Dominic, Shane and Rutger over a beer or two. Always good to put faces to the names.

Found out some info for Gary Lock. Will put it on a separate thread.

Steve

Steve Gyles

Steve, the prices are one of the reasons I don't go so often now. I'll go on the basis of a nice day out but not to specifically find parts. Like you said almost everything seems either slightly expensive or extremely expensive. Beaulieu may be OK for the very rare parts but sadly the golden days are gone.
