MG MGA - Body tubs and Chassis differences
| Hi, Sort of over from the midget Twin Cam board, I am considering adding a MGA to my car family, however I am looking at doing a rebuild/restoration with a Rover K Series engine/tranmission in place of the original engine/trans. Obviously this MGA will not be anywhere near original, and hence I am not bothered about using the model or year. My question is, does it matter which year, model and style of body tub is fitted to chassis, is it a case of any body tub will fit any chassis or are there unique variations to both? For example will a 1960 Roadster bodytub fit a Coupe chassis or vice versa? My thanks for all of your expertise. Mike Midget '73 Frogeye '59 |

| Hi Mike. I'm certainly no expert, but there were some minor detail differences between 1500, 1600, twin cam and deluxe models. I believe however that any of the coupe or roadster bodies would be mountable on any of those variant's frames, with only minimal modifications being necessary. For example a 1500 body going onto a 1600 chassis with 1600 engine would require a small modification to the transmission tunnel to give enough clearance for the starter motor, since the 2 transmission tunnels were slightly different. Hope this helps. Glenn |
