MG MGA - Brass Speedo Drive Seal ?
Does anyone know how the brass speedo drive housing seals into the gearbox. Is it a fibre seal / rubber seal / Copper Washer ? http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/books/spl/spl_tc_f.pdf I "think" it's defunct part number 51K3169 modern comined MGA/MGB geabox gasket sets contain the MGB speedo drive gasket and a fibre washer which I have no idea what it's for as it's too small for the MGA speedo drive. Many Thanks Mark |

Mark Just had a look at my 1500 gearbox lying in the garage. It's a copper washer. 1.25"OD, 1"ID Steve |

Hi Steve, Any idea the size of the copper washer and if that part is used elsewhere under another part number? The several gearbox kit's I have, don't contain any large copper washers. Cheers Mark |

Mark Assuming we are talking about the same washer I have attached a photo of subject item and the drive unit. Measurements are: 1.253 inches outside diameter 1.068 inches inside diameter 0.041 inches thick Steve |

There is also a rubber shaft seal inside the housing, and is required to work, because the speedo drive resides below oil level in the gearbox. |
