MG MGA - Canoe Style Tonneau?

Just got pretty sodden again on the way into work for the 2nd time this week and its only Tuesday morning. It occured to me that what I need is a tonneau with a welded-in cape in the style of a canoe waterproof covering!

Actually I keep moderately dry by having a fully folded towel on my lap. An umbrella for use at traffic lights usually raises a few smiles from other drivers. When I park up I then lay the towel along the arm rest and over the tunnel. This soaks up the water dripping in through the zip that would otherwise splash over the seats. However, this morning was particularly wet and I could have also done with a bailer!

Also, windscreen wipers on my glasses would have been useful. Perhaps I will coat them with Rainex/Rainaway! Mind you, not had to use the potatoe on the windscreen yet - need the hood up to get misted up!

Good air conditioning system at work. Dried off already. They still all think I am mad.

You are worried about my sanity? At least I've had the common sense to buy a coupe, comes complete with weather protection. Yes, I agree with Gordon, you are bonkers!

Not so mad Terry

Just going for a lunchtime drive to dry the car out a bit!

On the safety side, I did have bit of a problem this morning keeping a grip on the steering wheel. I have a varnished wood 14" motolita and it got very slippery once wet.

Hi Steve - let me know if you make a canoe style tonneau - pass the template on to me - I could do with one as well - cheers Cam
Cam Cunningham

I could use a down-filled version. It's -18*C (0*F) in the area here this morning. Don't have to worry about drips.

Hey steve,
I had the same slippery wheel problem with my Land Rover siii 88" in the rain.
I found a pair of Neoprene gloves with the tacky rubber on the outside and the nylon facing inside.
These gave great grip and once I started using them I never ended up in someones garden without intentionally pionting the rover there.

It could look quite amusing. For me, in a sitting position, the tonneau is just above shoulder height in the centre, only dropping away a bit at the door. You can just imagine the sight of a full tonneau with just a head and flat hat sticking out of a hole.

I must get Bob West's trimmer to make me one!

Steve..
How about making a ponch style car cover. One that can be fitted around the perimeter of the cockpit and then you can insert your head,
Tie the draw string, button up the outside and go merrily on your way. You do not even need a windscreen if you wear a helmet with goggles. You can envision your self on a good 4 wheeled motorbike.

I MUST BE STUPID. I thought these cars came with a hood and sidecurtians to avoid these problems. If you are not sure where it is, look behind the seats!!!!!At least our temp is dry and 73 degrees during the days now. Hell I amay even take my car out today even though I have the hardtop on. I had to put it on so the wife would go to dinner with me in the car to Hollywood for dinner.

The tip to avoid water on the seats is to tip the backrest forward

Hi Steve I seem to spend all my time trying to make my roadster as wind and water tight as possible, mmm, what did I sell last year oh yes a coupe, perhaps there's a message there for me lol

Just dried out for the 3rd time this week, yes it was p......g down on the way home. Flood warnings in force for the North West of England and most of the water is in my car!

You actually get immune to the weather when you realise that there is no shelter. I have to admit that I am actually enjoying it. Let's face it, this is what they used to endure in the early days of motoring. I sometimes think that we have lost the fun of motoring with our modern Euro boxes and soft tops that erect electically at the touch of a button.

The word DRIP comes to mind, have you thought of changing your job? You could work for a water authority with company kayak. There is a picture in 'Call it MGA of a roadster stuck in a ford, its not you is it?

I drove my coupe to the local natter Xmas meal last night, I didn't get wet at all, mind you, it wasn't raining

Seemed to have myself up well with this one!

Underneath that innocent looking face in the gallery is the killer instinct of a fighter pilot ready to shoot you in the back when you are not looking!

I'm watching you all!
