MG MGA - carpet from Ebay

Checked the archives and I couldn't find anything about this company. Does this look like a complete set to you? The seller's feedback is good.

Thanks,

Hi Darian,

No clues - do you mean ntg_mg_spares? It's the only carpet set I could see on eBay. If so, it's not quite to original spec. (and for similar money you can have original.) Maybe that's because that set covers the coupe too, six additional pieces for behind the seats. (12 pieces originally for the roadster.) Note that (if you want to be original) your car should have the cut out for the starter motor and the (correct type) heel mat on the left (driver's) side only.

I will also be purchasing a set, probably later in the summer (patience comes with age!) and so far I'm favouring Moss, but there are a lot to chose from so take your time and decide exactly what you want.

If you are particularly concerned about the cost, this is one thing you can do yourself. You should be able to find auto. carpet roll cheaply and easily, and a replica mat is available separately.

As usual, check Barneys site for carpet fitting instructions, templates etc. etc. (www.mgaguru.com, but then you should know that by now!)

Good luck with the resoration!

Neil

How's your sewing?

NTG is a very reputable supplier in the UK. They will definitely have the correct set available without having to bod on e-bay.

Also very good is Newton Commercial - they supply the interior trim kits to many European MG parts companies. They still do MGA stuff, although it's not listed on their site. I will be buying my new carpet set from them again when I finish the mechanical overhaul soon (the old one is wearing out at 20 years old...)

Sewing it yourself is VERY hard work, a friend of mine here is doing just that as I type, and he's thinking of throwing the towel in and buying a set after doing just the gearbox tunnel.

Given that the NTG one is on offer at the moment for GBP89 (that's 170 US) doesn't seem a bad deal (Shipping and customs shouldn't be $60)

During the restoration of my MkII roadster in 2004 I bought a Moss carpet kit. Just before I got around to installing it I decided it was a bit too thin and began looking for a better grade. I ended up buying and installing another set called "Woolon" from Scarborough Fair. It cost more than the Moss set, but was much thicker and better quality all around.

Dominic,
I enquired with Newton Commercial re the supply of carpet for my FHC and was advised that they only supplied to the trade. Please let me know how you fare with them.
Could you also let me know which of the numerous suppliers you select for your carpet. I'm looking for a supplier of carpet in light grey as close as possible to the original Carvel style carpet with sewn edges as per original.

Thanks,
