MG MGA - Carpet install

My fellow Guru's! I am getting closer to the end! I decided to install the thermal blanket on the floor ,firewall, etc. Question, Would you guy's use adhesive to glue this to the floor? And Is a carpet pad used, and if so, does it get glued on top of the aluminum foiled blanket? and last question I promise, should I then glue the carpet onto either the carpet pad and/or the insulation?
Thanks!
Bill R

I glued the insulation down and then glued the carpet to it using contact cement. So far, 11 years everything is still stuck in place.

Hi Bill. If carpet is glued in place, it leaves a nasty mess to remove the next time the carpeting has to be replaced! I used easy to install snap fasteners to hold my carpets in place. These are chrome snap fasteners that are available is sewing stores. While they are not original, they make it easy to remove the carpets for thorough cleaning, and do not leave glue residue all over everything! The insulation is installed first, and is held in place by the male portion of the snap fasteners. The female snaps get fitted to the carpet pieces . The carpets then just snap in place over the insulation. Works great if you dont require a concours look. Cheers, Glenn

When you get the inteior wet removable carpet simplifies the drying out process and minimizes the potential for rust formation in the floorboards.

I used self adhesive velcro strips when I fitted my new carpet. I bought it in rolls of ten metres, its not very expensive and it works like magic. The carpet pieces can be removed and replaced for cleaning as often as required.

I finally glued it down to the heat foil. No carpet padding to get wet and hold the moister.

I started with carpet tape, n.g. Then velcro, never got the right fit. Now upholstry/fabric spray glue...perfect fit (careful could get messy). Nothing moves, stay flat, no problems. If it gets wet, just don't cover and put away wet.

Can somebody address Bill's question about the securing of the separate layers--thermal shield, felted insulation blanket, and carpet? Would you use velcro strips to attach each layer to the one beneath, for example? Should the foil thermal blanket supplement or replace the felted blanket commonly supplied in carpet kits? I like the idea of a removable carpet but can't figure how to work this into a three-layer design. Thanks!

Why not fix studs (as standard in the footwells) or male poppers (as used to secure the gearbox filler flap) to the floor and tunnel. Then make holes in the insulation/felt to go over these and attach the female fasteners to the carpet.

You may need a washer or two under the fasteners to give the right clearance.

The small bits of carpet over the chassis rails are a bit more difficult!

Excellent idea, Neil! Thanks! I think that I'll use this as the basis for a fastening system.
