MG MGA - clutch cylinder doesn't release??!

Hi guys,

sort of clutch problem:

I found my clutchpedal clearance to be a little too much so I set it slightly tighter. Everything well untill I got to a red light. Pushed in the clutch a few times as I had to get in line. The next time I pushed it I felt no pressure at all.

I immediatly put the A on the side of the road to make sure the fluid levels etc etc. were okay. These were all fine and the next time I tried it, it worked perfectly fine again.

Till I got home, as the drive is slightly steep I put it in 1st and wanted to pull in the last few yards. And there was the same problem.
Clutch pedal all the way down, no pressure and clutch wasn;t released.

Could this be the spring (maybe broken)in the master cylinder?

looking forward to hearing from you;

Koen - Give the clutch pedal rod a bit more clearance. You probably have it s bit too tight and when things warm up in the car, it is holding the piston far enough in to cover the release hole int he M/C. Good luck - Dave

There is a tiny vent hole in the top of the cylinder, right next to the larger hole that allows fluid to pass from resevoir to cylinder. If it gets clogged with debris it will cause the symptoms you describe. It takes a very fine needle to clear it out. You might try this before you decide to pull the MC from the car.
