MG MGA - Clutch Kit

I ordered and just received the clutch kit for the MGA from Vicky Brit. When I opened it I was surprised to find what appears to be an NOS B&B clutch disk in the original box with BMC labels. Box definitely has some age on it but the part is pristine. The pressure plate is a new Delphi Borg & Beck.

Should I go ahead and use the NOS clutch disk?

Hi Wray. The NOS part is probably better made than an equivalent new part. if indeed in pristine condition, I would personally not hesitate to use it. Cheers, Glenn

Wray,
I purchased a couple of cars with engines out, pressure plate on flywheel and clutch, etc. I do plan on re-using them, they're just clutch discs. The disc really cannot be hurt by laying around. If there is no oil that seeped through the box, they are about bullet-proof. If there is oil, use some brake cleaner, wash in soap and water, and away you go. If you find loose rivets, however, all bets are off.

Mike and Glenn, thanks for the input. This car sat for at least a year, the rear shoes were stuck to the drums, fuel pump broken, and had several other minor problems. The slipping clutch issue could possibly resolve itself with continued driving; I've only done some test driving since getting it running and on the road. Since the engine/tranny has to come out anyway, I'll change the clutch and TO bearing. The gen isn't working so I've got to address that issue.

The upside is that the car has no rust. The underside is very nice and the engine runs very smoothly. The paint will need to be re-done; the prep work wasn't right and the paint crinkled near the seams. We think the PO who did the restoration stripped it but didn't clean it well enough before shooting the paint. I'll give him that with no problems, I saw some old photos of the car before he started and he certainly saved it from the crusher. When I paint it the color will go from the current red back to the original Iris blue. I think. My mind ain't totally made up yet. But, it won't stay red. Got a red car already.
