MG MGA - Clutch slave cylinder

My car was dismanteled 15 years ago. The clutch slave was sent to a a well known rebuilder for sevicing 18 months ago. Went to install it last week and it does not fit! The cylinder will not sit flush where it mounts and hits the bell housing of the trans. Do I have the wrong slave? It is stamped girling on it.

It has been a while since I had to mess with mine. I am having trouble picturing what you are talking about. As I recall, the bottom of the slave cylinder is flat and where it mounts to the trany is flat. Why it would not sit flush I cannot immagine, unless as you say, they gave you back the wrong one. Do the bolt holes line up? If they don't you definately have the wrong one. I have a Magnette also and the cylinders are different widths. I discovered this when I tried to put an A cylinder on and found that it is narrower.

If the back end of the cylinder is hitting the bell housing, it sounds like it is too long. I don't have one handy to measure, but I can do that later. I image someone else will have the dimensions handy.

Overall, it sounds like you have the wrong one.

I just took mine off and replaced it last week....both the old and new ones have Lockheed stamped on them....and sit flat/flush against the tranny. Could you have one from a T.Cam or another variant..Tom

Why bother refurbishing - they are cheaper new.
