MG MGA - Clutch slave just bleed it ?
Pushed the car out of the garage today, first time since October last year (all was well then). Started the car tried to put it in gear big crunch, tried pumping peddle still no good. I am using silicon fluid, no leaks visible on slave cylinder, fluid level not gone down in master cylinder, What's changed over winter, is it just a case of bleeding the clutch slave? |

Hmmm. Have you had a look underneath to see what is happening with the clutch slave just to be absolutely sure it is a hydraulics issue? |

Hi Graham, what else could it be, so I need to see if the rod moves when the pedal is pushed. Thanks Dave |

Now I have had time to mull this over I think it could be that the clutch disk is corroded to the flywheel caused by the cold damp winter. |

Dave You answered the question yourself before I got there. Sounds like you need to investigate. If it is seized, here is one way to try and release it https://mossmotoring.com/free-seized-clutch-disc |

Clutch was well and truly stuck, to free it (following suggestions) I first charged the battery, sat in the car engaged 4th gear depressed clutch peddle completely foot hard on brake no need to switch ignition on, pulled starter on and off repeatedly (once every second) took about 10 times to free clutch, happy now. From now on I will start car regularly during winter. Dave 1958 Roadster |
