MG MGA - Compression Tester
I was going to pop out at lunch to pick up a compression tester. What diameter fitting do I need to pick up? Sorry for all the posting activity, but these things do come up and I want to make sure the car's running for the long holiday weekend. thanks |

Tysen They normally come with a selection of adaptors. You need the 14mm adaptor to screw into the spark plug hole. Steve |

Or you can get one with a bullet shaped rubber nose. |

Fred. Having both types in my garage, I would strongly suggest a screw in model. It allows more tests to be done (such as the running compression check) and is easier to use when by one's self. While the MGA can be checked with the push in type with little problem, most of us will use our compression checkers on a number of vehicles over the years. Hence, one of the ones that screw into the spark plug hole and have an adapter to allow its use in several sizes of spark plug holes is an excellent investment. Les |

Listen to Les. I have both types of gauges also. Both quality Snap=On tools. The one with the rubber tip is much easier to use if you can. Meaning it wont fit on most modern cars and is rarely used these days. The screw in type will do anything needed of it on any type engine. Buy quality a poor (cheap) compression gauge is a waste of time and money and can mislead with inaccurate readings. |
