MG MGA - Coupe Radio Blanking Plate
Greetings all, I've been working on my "winter project" at the kitchen table, restoring the 1600 coupe dash. When I was gathering all the necessaries, I found the radio blanking plate that came with the car in a box containing the switches and gauges. It was painted with the black wrinkle/texture finish. So, I stripped the old paint off and repainted it, (looks darn nice too I might add). However, looking at some reference books I noticed a picture of a coupe dash that where the radio blanking plate appeared to be covered in matching material. So, which is correct? Thanks. |

The black crinkle finish is incorrect on all MGAs. All the blanking plates were finished to match the rest of the dash. If the dash was painted (1500 or 1600 roadsters) the radio plate was painted to match. If the dash was vinyl covered (all coupes, twincams and MK11s) the plate was covered with the same material. The CKD cars could have been different. |

Thanks guys! Too bad. The crinkle finish really does add to the dash. Oh well...something else to do. |

Where did the crinkle finish ones come from? Mine had a crinkle finish blanking plate as were. It had never had a radio installed in it, so if it was added later it was to replace another blanking plate. |

The one that I received recently from China via Moss was crinkle-finished. It's about as authentic as the AM-FM-cassette radiio it replaced. |

Hi guys, I think you will find that the crinkle finish plates were originally fitted to the MGB and midget. Cheers Mike. |

JR is correct. I owned MGA's back then and they were either painted the color of the dash or covered with vinyl for the coupe, Twin Cams and 1600 MKII. The black crinkle covers were on the MGB's. People have just used the MGB ones. David.... |

Thanks David! I've already made the change and covered it with the dash material. Hope to see you and "the gang" soon. |
