MG MGA - Coupe vent window hinges
I have just bought my first MGA, a ´59 1600 Coupe. It is really bad, a project car with lots and lots of work, but then that really was the idea! The upper vent window hinges on both sides are broken. Does anyone know if they can be replaced with hinges from other MG models or other BMC/Leyland cars? I always had a soft spot for the MGA coupe. Some people say it is ugly, but to me it is one of the most gorgeous designs ever! One day - I hope - it will be the perfect addition to my ´63 mgb roadster and the ´61 midget, though I believe one of them will have to go when/if the MGA is finished. Tore |

Tore, The upper hinges are NOT available seperatly (to the best of my knowledge). They come as a unit with the vent glass frame. But this might just be your lucky day as I have two (rt & lf) chrome vent window frames (with glass if necessary). If this is of interest to you, contact me off line and we can discuss this matter. Tore, I believe that some of the MGB's had the same hinge but I don't know which year. I had mine rechromed and they ruined them! I used what was left and made up a replacement set. I made a jig and template and after fabrication I had the pieces chrome plated. If you cannot find any let me know and I can make up a set for you. My email is johnprogess@comcast.net. Have a good day! John |

Hello fellow coupe owners, I am embarking on a coupe restoration and have got to the window frames - If the frames are dismantle for rechroming (which will include the rivetted parts) how did you all deal with replacing the chrome headed rivets? Are replacements available anywhere? Has anyone had experience with marzak mender or similar products for repairing pits in the diecast parts? Thanks for your help, Mark |

Gordon and John, Thanks for your kind offers. I will mail a picture of the part I need, just to be sure we are discussing the same one! David, Beautiful car! Nice colour, too. Tore |

Tore, I wish you the very best with your restoration. I agree that the Coupe is one of the most beautifical cars to be designed. In my opinion far better than the roadster. I'm 40% along with my 60 Coupe restoration so if you ahve any questions please let me know. I'm doing a complete nut and bot and body off restoration. I have the same problem as you with the quarter light hinges. I need both sides too. I also have an early and late MGB and the hinges are different. If I can't find any other source I'll give John in Utah a call. Good Luck, Andy |
