MG MGA - CSI Ignition - anyone have experience please?

I posted on the MG TC site which seems to have very few readers compared to the MGA site, can any of the experts throw in opinions please...

My recently purchased MG TC is currently having major mechanical work done with Brown & Gammons.

CSI Ignition has come up in conversation as a possible option to the original distributor; I have never heard of this, apparently it stands for Classic Sport Ignition.

My question is does anyone have experience of this conversion to share?

Thanks.

I would be wary of being a guinea pig. I use either Pertronics or the Accuspark stuff which is much cheaper

Doug...
Go to www.mg-tabc.org
That's where all the TC owners hang out.

Thanks Dominic, would you know if the other options you mention can be used on a TC?

Gene, thanks for the tip, the TC forum here looks real quiet compared to the MGA..

Doug,
I have 2 TC's, both with Petronix. I've heard other TC owners mentioning Accuspark.

Gene,

Thanks, are you pleased with the Petronics, how does it affect performance, maintenance issues?

Thank you,

The Accuspark is identical in concept to the pertronix unit, just half the price.

you can find the unit for your car here

http://accuspark.co.uk/car_search.html

If you are in the neighbourhood of B&G, Accuspark is just down the road
near Luton, so go and talk to them or give them a call

Doug,

I like them since they're basically maintenance free...set the timing and forget. Only problem(?) is they're polarity sensitive so if you buy one make sure you plan on leaving your car that polarity.

Dominic,

Thanks very much for this information.

Gene, thanks as well, appreciate.

I concur what Gene says. Never had to touch the unit in 17 years. Just the other routine distributor maintenance and that's that.

Mine is the Aldon Ignitor system which I believe is also identical to the Petronix.

Steve,

I emailed Bob West today to ask which unit he had fitted in my MGA; Bob replied it was the Petronix, supplied by Aldon Automotive, so the same as yours?

Have you ever heard of this CSI?

Thanks,

Doug.

I have had the CSI for two years now in my 1600 MkII without any trouble at all.

Lars,

Thanks for that advice.

I've run my MGC for a couple of years with the CSI unit. I think its made in Holland and found them very helpful when I rang them for advice.
