MG MGA - cylinder head
i brought a new cylinder head, and now its on i saw that the hole where the heater controle valve comes is only halve open. it looks like the drill didnn't went all the way.I can see a center point and only half off the material is gone.the first 5mm are 16 mm wide and the rest is about 8 mm wide Do i have to make the hole bigger, becaurse the hole in the heater control valve is only 9 mm,can i do it with the head on,will there come any material (steel) in the cylinder bores thanks http://users.pandora.be/mga_world/ |

Serge Just had a look at my 1500 on the garage floor. It is the same. It seems to be the casting for the very adjacent cylinder head stud. Steve |

In my opinion, I would take a small grinder such as a mototool and grind off any small fragments of casing and then vacuum the hole, then grind a little more. I wouldn't think there is much concern to just "clean up" the hole. This would allow the coolant to flow through the hole much better and give you a little more heat in the cockpit from the heater. As for the small bits of metal, they will just find there way to the lowest part of the engine or radiator. No not into the combustion chamber. You could use a small magnet and try to retrieve as much as possible with it and with a vacuum hose get some more. Ray |

Hi Serge Don't drill it out, it's meant to be like that. Your heater should work OK Terry |

If one was to take an old 'original MGA' radiator to a rebuild shop, what would be the recommendations? I found a shop that does not charge an arm & leg for labor. More rows? Any advice is appreciated? Thanks, Devin |
