MG MGA - Death of Ton Maathuis
This message appeared on another MGA website. Dear MG friends, From his son Kenneth I have received the sad news today that Ton Maathuis, president of the MG Car Club Luxembourg since 1974 and mga twin cam owner has been killed in a traffic accident in his MGF by an overturning lorry! His wife is seriously hurt. Ton and friends were on a trip with their MGs in Italy when the accident happened on Thursday last week. This message probably will mainly concern group members from Europe, but I wanted to pass it on to everybody who might have known Ton. Stephan Propsting Germany |

This is sad, very sad news indeed. I offer my sympathy to his family and hopes for his Wife's recovery. I attended the Luxembourg '82 event and got used to seeing Ton at the Silverstone International over the years. He was one of the great supporters of MGs, ranking right up there with the very best of them. For years now we have been seeing the demise of the old Factory stalwarts, now it seems that more and more of the true enthusissts are leaving us. |

Ton was one of the greatest MG enthusiasts ever, in fact he was one of the greatest people I know. Always kind and very active in many ways, not only MG's but also classic cars in general. We visited many of the Luxembourg events and are very grateful not to have missed his last great event last August celebrating 50 years of MGCC Luxembourg. I will miss him very much. |
