I have a top connection distributor cap and I know the firing order. What I don't know is which post is number 1. Please help!! |

If your engine was rebuilt correctly, it would be about 2 o'clock but that is no guarantee. You see, the distributor drive gear can be put in a just about any position leaving the distributor in justabout any possible place to indicate #1. Its the opening a closing of the valves and the alignment of the timing marks that indicate when #1 is firing. Check the manual--its all there--or search Barney Gaylord's mgaguru.com Did you ever straighten out the points/grounding issue? You never got back to us on that one--still my bet. Paul |

Paul, I am asking which distributor cap wire contact is #1. Typical distributor caps have a #1 embossed on them, mine dose not. |

#1 is "supposed to be" the terminal closest to #1 spark plug. If that doesn't work, then set the crankshaft to TDC with #1 on compression, and re-orient the distributor drive gear until the rotor points that direction. |

Never seen a dissy cap with number 1 embosed on it? is that an american thing? Simple to do as Barney has described |
